"Psalm 91 has truly become one of my most treasured passages of Scripture. The well-known passage in the Bible about the protection and provision of a loving Father over His children—but I love it even more so, as it has been brought to life after naming our property "Havenwood". We truly wanted God's favor and blessing to flow like a river over and surround our new property that we purchased three years ago at 922 Sam Houston School Rd. So much so, that we dedicated this property and deeded it back to its Creator—Jesus our Savior, Father God, and the Holy Spirit.
Before Havenwood was ever a thought, I remember feeling so apprehensive about what I was hearing in my spirit: a simple, still, small voice—but also powerful whisper to my heart and mind—saying, “It’s time.” Somehow, I knew exactly what it meant. It was time to sell our home in Jefferson City.
My friend Carrie asked God for a sign as we prayed together over the decision. She asked in prayer that I might see a special feather in the coming days ahead as confirmation that the decision we were making was the right one... which I did see that night while getting ready for bed. Right above my night stand I had painted a blue feather a year earlier.
At the end of Psalm 91:4, the words read, “Under His wings you will find refuge.” I see this Scripture every night before I lay down to sleep and every morning as I greet the day. But that night, it was highlighted and brought to my attention. I knew it was the special feather He wanted me to see.
Fast forward, we left our home in Jefferson City and purchased our new home in Maryville—what we now call Havenwood.
We went through the naming process, which took about a week. I presented names as I sat among the trees, in ongoing conversation with its Creator. My Creator. The ideas for the name started out with things like—“The Little Barn in the Big Woods” or “The Little Rough-Cut Barn,” since our plan was to continue what we were already doing. Making signs and crafts from rough-cut lumber.
Then, the whisper again to my heart. I knew that we were not continuing our plan. We were doing something knew. God had another plan, that unfolded after He named it: Havenwood. We became stewards of His property.
In the course of that week, He took me from seeing the light—the way it streams through the trees just before the sun goes down. To loving the big oaks standing guard over our little haven in the woods. Really "seeing" the woods surrounding us. For the first time, I really noticed the birds singing and the squirrels scurrying through the branches.
This place was a "refuge" for them—for “the least of these.” His eye really was "on the sparrow". He was providing for them, and they were trusting in His protection and provision.
I remembered my blue feather and the words written before it—not just any words, but His Word. Psalm 91. His Word of His protection and provision. “Under His wings you will find refuge.” At the nudge of the Holy Spirit, I looked up other ways to say refuge. Haven was the first word I saw—and immediately I knew He wanted it named Havenwood.
The rest unfolded piece by piece, step by step, vision by vision—which He continues to this day. I have learned to trust in His protection and provision in ways I never understood before taking this step into the unknown with Him.
Trusting Him to protect and provide as we go. I believe God wants everyone who comes here to feel His presence, to know His goodness, to know and love His order, and to feel His love. He wants each person to know His protection and provision as they start out on their journey of life together. He wants to be present at all milestones in your lives.
From weddings to baby showers, family reunions, and milestones yet to come—celebrating life, again and again, with us here at Havenwood." - Katie Woodruff
